Using the NYSESLAT in the Development of SLOs

The New York State Education Department has developed sample SLOs that demonstrate two potential methods of how to develop an SLO that uses the NYSESLAT as the summative assessment. Understanding that high quality implementation is achieved through modeling and feedback, these tools are built around the application of two different target setting models to a sample 3-4 ESL class in a pull-out model, as well as a 9-12 ESL class.

Please note that these models are intended as examples only. Districts and BOCES, within the context of State Regulations and frameworks, should determine how specific SLOs will be set after assessing their unique priorities and needs.
