The NYSESLAT Passage Review Criteria documents, which are separated by grade band, were used to evaluate passages that were included in the NYSESLAT. The criteria that were used for evaluation are included in the documents, and provide space for reviewers to offer an overall recommendation for use, as well as more specific criteria such as: issues of concern, information on text complexity, graphics, and suitability for ELLs. This resource can be used by educators to help select texts for use in instruction and assessment.

The NYSESLAT Passage Review Criteria Appendix includes a glossary of terms for passage review that describes narrative text, informational text, tiers of vocabulary, and text complexity. This resource can be used by educators to help select texts for use in instruction and assessment.
