Overview of Math Training
November NTI will be focusing on Common Core Standards aligned math curriculum for grades P-5 and 6-12. P-5 math training (November 26-27) will build off the training that was facilitated in August, while the 6-12 math group (November 28-29) will be convening for the first time to learn about fundamentals of the Common Core Standards and the forthcoming math related curriculum.

P-5 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT INFORMATION AND UPDATES
Learning Goals for P-5 Training:

  • Articulate and explain Common Core Inc.’s approach to teaching math in alignment with the Standards, the Shifts and the Publishers’ Criteria
  • Share critical updates to the Year-Long Curriculum Map based on August feedback
  • Explore and analyze Grade 2—Module 3 and Grade 5—Module 3; then, explain and describe key transferable characteristics of modules
  • Define rigor through analysis of End-of-Module Performance Tasks, student work and embedded problems
  • Deconstruct rigor into its three components: fluency, conceptual understanding and application through analysis of multiple examples
  • Analyze grade-band content for module 3, and learn to plan a rigorous approach to instruction of content

Take Home Materials: Participants attending will receive TWO exemplar modules. These modules will cover major areas of work of grade 2 and grade 5. The exemplar modules that will be provided are:

  • Grade 2—Module 3
  • Grade 5—Module 3

Participants will also receive turnkey materials for all major sessions over the course of the two-day training including session plans, ppts and handouts to enable successful turnkey in your home district.
