Network Team Institute Overview and Agenda: March 13-14, 2013

Large Group Discussing

March 13-14, 2013 Teacher Evaluator Training

The March Network Team Institute will feature differentiated training in Teacher Evaluation and is open to all participants with prior evaluation training and experience using the True North Logic platform.

Participants must select their training track based on their calibration results report provided to them after their last calibration event.  The training tracks are defined as follows:

Participants who are Not Yet Calibrated/Initially Calibrated in the evidence measures should sign up for the “Alignment/Representativeness” workshop.

Participants who are “Calibrated” or “Calibrated with Distinguished” should attend the “Interpretation and Accuracy” workshop.

Day 1 March 13, 2013

I. Morning Session

Concurrent sessions selected by participants based on their calibration results report.

Alignment/Representativeness Workshop
(designed for participants who are below “level 3” in these evidence areas based on past calibrations.)

Participants will practice aligning evidence to either the ASCD Danielson 2007 rubric or the NYSUT 2012 rubric. Through whole and small group work, participants will develop a deeper understanding of the elements/indicators of the rubric they are using to better align evidence.

Interpretation and Accuracy Workshop
(designed for participants who have achieved “level 3” or above on their evidence based on past calibrations.)

Participants will practice interpreting aligned evidence to interpret and score against the ASCD or NYSUT 2012 rubrics. Through whole and small group work, participants will discuss their rationale for their scoring and develop a deeper understanding of how the language of the rubrics guides scoring decisions.

II. Afternoon Session
Concurrent sessions – participants select the area depending upon their own positions.

Coaching Conversations
(designed for participants who are not observers themselves, but work with administrators who are observers).

Participants will identify the issues they are experiencing in the field, review the conditions for productive professional conversations, examine a video coaching conversation, develop plans for providing PD for their constituents.

Coaching Conversations
(designed for participants who observe teachers).

Participants will consider different scenarios and develop questions that could be used to conduct a professional conversation that will allow the teacher to reflect and determine his/her own areas of strength and areas for growth. They will also examine a video coaching conversation to assess its strengths and areas for improvement.

Day 2 – March 14, 2013

8:30 am – 4:00 pm
Calibration
Participants will use the TNL platform to collect evidence on another calibration video. The purpose of this calibration is for participants to chart their progress in either improving or maintaining their inter-rater reliability
