Modeling Word Problems: Multiplication and Division
Time: 3 Hours
Description: This session provides an opportunity to see coherent use of the tape diagram as a model that supports student understanding in grades K-7. Through analysis of various problem types, analysis of student work, and deliberate practice, this session suggests a pedagogy allowing students to make intuitive drawings followed by teachers’ guidance with the tape diagram.
The session will include analysis of all four operations, but will emphasis analysis of 7 multiplication and division word problem situations.
