Grade 9 ELA Module 1, Unit 2, Lesson 7

reading

In this lesson, students begin their study of “Solarium,” a chapter from the novel Black Swan Green with thematic connections to Rilke’s Letter One. Over the next several lessons, students will prepare to apply the skills they have developed over the past few weeks to a new task: cross-textual analysis. In this lesson, students will read, summarize, and discuss the first four pages of the chapter, from “OPEN UP! OPEN UP! holler door…” to “To business” (pp. 142–145). This solid foundation will prepare them for the richness of the conversations with Madame Crommelynck in the lessons to come.
