In this lesson, students read and analyze paragraphs 26–33 of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” in which King criticizes the white church for its failure to take a stance. Students discuss how King unfolds his analysis of the church’s position and the way in which he orders his points.
